The Career Center is much more than "the place to go to find a job" when you're ready to graduate. In fact, we're here for you from the first day you arrive at CWRU! Throughout your academic career the Career Center can help you learn about yourself, articulate your skills and qualifications, and develop your professional network. The world of work is full of career options and with so many choices, it can be challenging to focus, but we're here to help you!
Whether you are a first-year undergraduate or a PhD student, the Career Center will introduce you to an amazing array of career possibilities and help you explore the link between academics and career options. If you already have a career goal, we can help you develop strategies and skills to help you get you where you want to go.
Meet with us to:
- Develop a better understanding of your skills, interests, values and personality and learn how they relate to your major and career possibilities
- Increase your knowledge of the job/internship search process
- Write an effective resume, CV or cover letter
- Gain greater confidence in interviewing skills
- Learn about the process of applying to graduate and/or professional school and how to write an effective essay
Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., 30 – 60 minute sessions
Topics covered: All career topics including career assessments; career exploration and decision-making; graduate or professional school planning including graduate or professional school essay review; job/internship/Practicum/Co-op search; interviewing; LinkedIn for career development; mock interviews; networking; resume, CV, cover letter, LinkedIn profile review; salary and job offer negotiation.
How to schedule:
Students: Call us at 216.368.4446, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org, or stop by our office at Sears Library, Room 229. When scheduling you will be asked for your name, degree level, major or program of study, expected graduation date, topic for your appointment, phone number, and CWRU network ID (e.g. abc123). You may be asked to email us documents such as a resume, CV, cover letter, or essay in advance of your appointment.
Alumni: Please complete this online form and a staff member will follow up with you.
Late arrivals: Please arrive on time. If you are running late or are unable to keep your appointment, please call our office so we know whether or not to expect you.
Career Counseling Recognition
The Career Center has been awarded the gold level of certification for the OUT for Work Career Center Certification Program. OUT for Work functions as a complimentary component in the total educational experience of LGBT students, primarily in the development, evaluation, initiation, and implementation of career plans and opportunities.
OFW's programs, resources, and services provide assistance to students in the cultivation and enhancement of skills to explore career options, master search techniques and strategies, and research employment opportunities.
