Highlights from Nicaragua 2012
Students attending the Alternative Spring Break to Nicaragua worked on a variety
of community service projects while also getting to know the local culture and enjoying
the country's natural beauty. Working with community members through Waves of Hope, a
local nonprofit, students helped construct a school kitchen which will give children a
place to eat breakfast and lunch during the school year. Students also participated in
English lessons and extra-curricular activities with the local children.
As one participant commented, "ASB Nicaragua was by far the most eye-opening experience
I have ever had. After interacting with the local community members of Manzano Uno and for
one week living life as they do, my perspectives on everyday life in America have been
forever changed— from valuing water supply to the accessibility of adequate healthcare.
ASB Nicaragua was the best week of my life."
