Immediate help is available to students, faculty, staff, parents and family members when a crisis occurs or threats of harm arise.
Urgent Counseling & Referral Care
Urgent counseling care for emergency situations is available without an appointment Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. at University Health & Counseling Services, 220 Sears location (map).

Telephone Consultation for Students in Distress
Consultation over the telephone is available with a staff member of UHCS at 216.368.5872. When a student demonstrates or discloses thoughts of suicide or dangerous behaviors, faculty or staff may contact UHCS for a consultation.
Some signs to watch for include profound depression, thoughts of suicide, self injury (cutting), frightening anger and/or threats of violence toward others; active anxiety attacks; cognitive confusion, incoherence, disorientation, or grandiose thoughts; or signs of excessive alcohol or drug use.
If the student is in your presence, ask for assistance from an available colleague if possible as you call for immediate help. If you need immediate assistance with an emergency, please contact UHCS at 216.368.5872.
Urgent Counseling Care, Brief Consultation and Referral
Urgent counseling care for students in distress is available weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at UHCS in 220 Sears. We also offer brief consultation and referral sessions throughout the week to better assist students who are not in a crisis but who need to discuss an urgent matter.
Emergencies After Hours, Weekends, and Holidays
In the event of a life-threatening emergency after hours, weekends, or holidays, call 216.368.5872 and select the phone number option for Emergency Consultation Care.
Assistance with Personal or Family Matters
If you are a University Employee (Faculty, Staff, or Administrator) and you need assistance with a personal or family matter, please contact the Employee Assistance Program (EASE) at 216.241.3273 or 800.521.3273. Your call will be immediately directed to counseling professionals. Staff are available and calls are answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
