UNIV 400C - Future Faculty Preparation

UNIV 400 C is designed for those TAs who plan to be professors after they graduate. Instead of completing UNIV 400A for their TA training, they will enroll in UNIV 400 C through SIS. International TAs must have completed their UNIV 402 course sequence before taking UNIV 400C.

Signing up for UNIV 400C

Students will sign up for UNIV 400 C when they attend the UNIV 400A/B/C Orientation. Enrollment for UNIV 400 C is limited to 30 students. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis.

Prepare for a future teaching career with University 400C Future Faculty Preparation Seminar

Graduate students and postdoc scholars/fellows considering a career in teaching can sign up for the University 400C Future Faculty Preparation Seminar as a first step in their process. UNIV 400 C is a non-credit seminar.

Taught by two experienced teachers and a seasoned graduate teaching assistant, this seminar offers participants the chance to learn effective teaching strategies useful across major disciplines.

Through small group discussions, journal assignments, and micro-teaching sessions, participants will have opportunities to learn and try out successful teaching strategies. In addition, the final two weeks will guide students through online teaching techniques. These final weeks will be asynchronous, online sessions.

This 12-session seminar will take place on Tuesdays from January 30 through April 24. Two sections are available: 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. or 1 to 2:15 p.m.. A free textbook is provided.

Enrollment is limited to 15 students per section.

Participants will be expected to read assignments, complete a weekly journal, plan and teach a mini lesson, and participate fully in all discussions and online sessions.

Additional notes
  • Those taking this track do not need to come to any of the seminars in UNIV 400 A (the non-professorial track), but may still feel free to register for and attend any elective seminars in the standard track that are of interest.
  • Students in this track do not need to register for any seminars on MyTATraining.
