Information Systems Assistant

Basic Function

The Information Systems Assistant position provides an educational environment for a motivated student to develop and utilize relevant skills in computing to support the information systems goals of the Division of Student Affairs and its departments and programs. The exact duties will be determined on an ongoing basis by the Training and Support Manager. Staff needs, current projects and priorities will be considered when determining ongoing assignments. Assistants are expected to develop new skills during employment.

Daily duties may include:

  1. Clerical tasks in support of ongoing projects.
  2. Telephone support/inquiries for users in the Division of Student Affairs.
  3. Electronic mail support/inquiries for users in the Division of Student Affairs.
  4. PC-compatible hardware support.
  5. Configuration of computing equipment in a networked environment.
  6. Movement and installation of computing equipment (lifting of up to 50 lbs. required).
  7. Working with hardware vendors to troubleshoot and repair hardware problems.
  8. Providing software support for Microsoft Office, Internet Explorer, Windows Operating Systems, Adobe Acrobat, or other software programs utilized by the division.
  9. Providing limited software support for iOS and Windows Mobile devices.
  10. Software installation following established guidelines for security and licensing.
  11. Content development for divisional web sites following established style guidelines.
  12. Photo acquisition and manipulation for divisional web sites.
  13. Small project development and maintenance using appropriate software.
  14. Development or maintenance of floor plans or building layouts using AutoCAD or Visio.
  15. Windows application development using Microsoft Visual Studio, C# and the .NET Framework.
  16. Web application development using Microsoft Visual Studio, C# and the .NET Framework.
  17. Creating documentation and training materials for new and existing projects.
  18. Additional responsibilities as assigned by appropriate staff.
Reporting Responsibilities

The information systems assistant reports directly to the Training and Support Manager. Additional supervision will be provided by full-time staff in the IT Operations Group.

Training

Assistants must complete training for the operation of university vehicles. The IT Operations Group staff will provide appropriate technical training for new projects and responsibilities on a regular basis.

Qualifications

Must hold a valid driver's license. Prior programming experience and knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office required. Knowledge of HTML, web development, graphics, Access, SQL, .NET, and C# are beneficial.

Compensation

Pay starts at $12 per hour (10 - 20 hours a week, work study preferred). We offer performance-based raises yearly. We also offer full-time student positions during the summer with free housing arrangements.
