Off-campus Housing Case Western Reserve University offers a variety of resources for students, faculty and staff who are considering off-campus housing. In addition to online links and resources, we also provide valuable tips and information about where to find rental units close to the university.

Am I eligible to live off campus?

Undergraduate students must live in university housing or a Greek house for the first two years of their degree program at Case Western Reserve. During their third and fourth year, they are eligible to live off campus. All graduate students can live off campus.

Will living off campus affect my financial aid?

For an undergraduate student, living off campus will change the budget used to calculate your financial aid package. If you are receiving any grant money in your package, living off campus could affect the amount you receive. Check with the Office of Financial Aid before requesting a release. Financial aid for graduate students living off campus should not be affected.

Your Search

It is wise to begin your search three to six weeks before you need to move. Most rentals begin on the first of the month. While it is possible to find an apartment in a day or two, it is not recommended that you wait until the last minute. Fall semester housing listings are usually available in the summer months. ALOHA is the Off-Campus Housing Listing Service and online property rental search system available from the Office of University Housing. ALOHA is designed to assist members of the Case Western Reserve community who are interested in obtaining housing near the university. ALOHA allows prospective tenants to search for properties based on their own personal preferences, whether they are looking for low-cost options, an apartment close to campus, pet-friendly housing, and more.
