Criteria for Selection

The Jackson Award recognizes outstanding advising and mentoring of undergraduate students at Case Western Reserve University. Nominees for the Jackson Award must demonstrate excellence in one or more of the following areas:

  • Guiding the student toward discovery of academic and career paths
  • Fostering the long-term personal development of the student
  • Challenging the student to reflect, explore, and grow
  • Supporting and facilitating the student's goals and life choices
Nomination Process

Nominations for the J. Bruce Jackson, MD, Award are solicited annually.

  • All Case Western Reserve University undergraduate students and Case Western Reserve University alumni may submit nominations.
  • All nominees must have a current position or an emeritus appointment at Case Western Reserve University.
  • Each nominator must have been directly mentored by the nominee. (Nominators may not nominate a member of their immediate family.)
  • Nominations should be submitted online. The deadline for nominations is Monday, March 12, 2018.
Selection Process

A committee composed of undergraduate students, faculty, and alumni (not to exceed 11 people and with a majority of students) will make the final selection. Outstanding nominations that are not selected may be considered the following year. The selection committee will:

  • Review all written nominations
  • Identify the leading candidates for the award
  • Select one or two annual winners

The Jackson Award winner will be recognized during the university's commencement weekend and will receive a cash award and plaque.
