Dean's Honor Lists

Commencement Honors

Commencement Honors are awarded to the top 35 percent of the graduating class. The top 10 percent of the graduating class graduate summa cum laude, "with highest honor." The next 10 percent graduate magna cum laude, "with great honor." The next 15 percent graduate cum laude, "with honor."

Departmental Honors and Awards

A number of departments offer outstanding upperclass students the opportunity to follow an honors program by pursuing independent research and special study-in seminars. Those who qualify receive their degree "with departmental honors."

In addition, department-specific awards are given yearly to students who perform excellently within their area of study. Underclassmen receive awards at the Undergraduate Honors Assembly and graduating seniors receive awards at the Senior Awards Assembly.
