Biofeedback training is a therapeutic approach that allows students to learn adaptive skills based on direct and immediate feedback from the body. This type of training can: increase internal awareness of stress and tension in the body and mind; teach us how to calm down quickly and easily; and help improve mental clarity, concentration, and memory for peak performance.

Biofeedback training at UH&CS uses sensors to measure and display heart rate rhythm and variability data in real time on a computer screen. These data can help students gain awareness of how stress affects our bodies and minds, and bring these stress responses under greater conscious control. Biofeedback training can be a complementary or alternative form of treatment for people who would like additional strategies to cope with stress/anxiety, attention challenges, depressed mood, poor sleep, and pain/muscle tension.
